TEHRAN – Ali Shamkhani, a top Iranian security official went to Iranian Parliament on Wednesday to discuss the Iraqi Kurdistan independence referendum.

Iranian MP Jabbar Kouchakinejad, from the constituency of Iranian northern city of Rasht, recounted that Iranian Parliament went into a one-hour private session on Wednesday.

The event featured Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani who briefed the MPs about the next round of Iran’s measures in facing the Iraqi Kurdistan independence referendum.

According to Mr. Kouchakinejad, the measures undertaken prior to September 25 poll were also reviewed as Mr. Shamkhani gave an account of them.

Iran formed a trilateral union to negotiate with Kurdish officials and after robust rounds of talks no success was garnered, Shamkhani noted; “however all security consideration were observed during the negotiations,” highlighted the lawmaker.

Mr. Kouchakinejad quoted Mr. Shamkhani reassuring that Iran will shore up supports for the central government of Iraq.
