Iran, Turkey Call for Amending List of Preferential Tariffs

 TEHRAN – Chairman of Urmia Chamber of Commerce Mr. Hossein Entezar yesterday met Chairman of Turkey’s Yuksekova Chamber of Commerce and Industries Mr. Abdurrahman Pinar and his accompanying delegation and during the brainstorming meeting both sides explored ways for enhancing bilateral cooperation.

During the brainstorming meeting of economic activists of Iran and Turkey’s border regions, Mr. Entezar called for expansion of trade between both states, adding that to materialize the goal, first infrastructural problems of the customs offices in borders should be resolved and then in order to materialize the 30-billion-dollar trade target between Iran and Turkey, list of preferential tariffs should be amended by eliminating and adding.

Mr. Entezar also pointed to the 400-year history of Iran and Turkey’s relation and the current existing cultural and economic relations, adding that West Azerbaijan is one of the pioneer provinces in the country in the industrial sector especially in steel field and the province ranks first in agro products like production of honey and apple.

He also pointed to the process and concentrate industries of the province which accounts for 65 percent of the total amount in the country.

Mr. Entezar also added that the province is also rich in mineral sources and it is a tourist attraction in the country. He also pointed to the cooperation of the province with Turkish universities especially in the medical field. He reiterated that Urmia can be a bridge between economic activists of Azerbaijan Province with Yuksekova.

He also pointed to the current problems in the joint custom offices of both countries, adding that first those infrastructural problems in the customs offices should be resolved and then the list of preferential tariffs should be amended.

Meanwhile Pinar, for his part, pointed to the goals behind his visit to West Azerbaijan, adding that he pursued three goals during his visit to Urmia.

He went on to say that his first goal is to launch the joint border industrial park between Urmia and Yuksekova which will be on a land around 6m square meters and it will be centered on agro products and process industries.

Pinar added that his second goal is to set up a free trade zone based on preferential trade goods and his third goal is to utilize tourism potentials of both regions in attracting and exchanging tourists for development of the region.

Yuksekova, is a city and a district of Hakkari Province of Turkey, situated on the border with Iran.
