Development and Use of Nukes “Forbidden” by Islam
According To Iran News, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei says the country has no reason to go for nuclear arms as the development and use of such weapons is religiously forbidden.
Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran’s position in that regard is firm and definitive.
“Although we could have taken a step in that path, we announced the use of this weapon (nuclear arms) religiously forbidden as instructed by the respected religion of Islam,” said the Leader in a meeting with elite and top scientific figures on Wednesday.
“So, there is no reason for us to spend money on the production and stockpiling of weapons whose use is absolutely forbidden,” Ayatollah Khamenei added.
“Nuclear science is beneficial but since it’s not been coupled with love for humanity, it led to nuclear disasters. Despite having the ability to develop nukes, we firmly and bravely avoided it, for building and keeping nukes, like using them, is haram.”
“Science, if not coupled with the upright intellectual approach, will become dangerous. That’s why we believe academic elites should seriously pursue ‘religion’ and ‘nationality’. We want science but we don’t want our universities to be a reproduction of some U.S. university.”
“Iran’s intellectuals can play an important role in public diplomacy. Connecting with West Asia, World of Islam, even the world’s truth-seeking academics including those in Europe or America can lead to the promotion of pure and humane knowledge.”
“The Islamic revolution has offered the world a 3rd option which is neither socialist nor liberal democracy. We should be able to attract hearts by our logical words and actions to this path beneficial to mankind and save nations from the infiltration of West’s deviating culture.”
Ayatollah Khamenei said that while Iran sees no shame in learning new sciences from others, it does not want its universities to replicate the American education system and copy the “wrong Western culture.”
“Imitating others will kill innovation and the real vigor that comes with science,” he said.
The Leader advised the Iranian officials to protect the young elite generation from becoming subjected to the phenomenon of brain drain that is being encouraged by certain groups.
He said the Iranian prodigies are the valuable assets of their own country and must be protected against attempts to lure them out of the country using financial incentives and other false promises.
The Leader hailed the Iranian scientists’ achievements in defense, medical sciences, engineering, nanotechnology and peaceful nuclear energy despite the increasing foreign pressure.
“We live in a different situation than others,” Ayatollah Khamenei said. “We need to think Iranian, act Iranian and live Iranian and this trend can be accelerated by adopting the Islamic-Iranian Blueprint for Progress.”
He said Iranians need to attain such high scientific standards that “in 50 years’ time, all elites wishing to acquire the latest scientific findings should learn the language of Farsi. This is something that can be achieved through reliance on Iranian genius, intellect and persistence.”
Among the achievements of the country on the scientific front, he said, have been the enhancement of national defense might, control and treatment of diseases, promotion of technical-engineering services, accomplishments in the field of biotechnology and progress in peaceful nuclear technology.
He said the progress that Iranian universities have made over the past forty years is mind-boggling compared to that before the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
