Iran condoles India over deadly pilgrim bus crash in Saudi Arabia
TEHRAN (Iran News) In a statement on Tuesday, Baqaei expressed sympathy with the people and government of India, while praying to God Almighty for mercy and forgiveness for the victims and for the injured to recover.
At least 42 Indian pilgrims lost their live and one was wounded after a bus carrying them from Mecca collided with a fuel tanker, some 160 kilometers from the city of Medina, on Monday. Passengers did not get any time to escape as fire quickly engulfed the vehicle.
According to the Indian media reports, most of the victims were from the southern city of Hyderabad, in Telangana province.
While there was no official word on the fatalities, people familiar with the matter were cited as saying that 44 deaths were confirmed, including 42 Indian nationals and two Saudi citizens who were acting as facilitators for the pilgrims.
