Iraqi security expert mocks US claims on Iranian interference

TEHRAN (Iran NewsAn Iraqi security analyst responded to recent comments by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about disarming Iraqi resistance groups, asserting that US interventions in Iraq are far more extensive than any foreign influence.

Speaking on the Nujaba TV network, Abdul Karim Khalaf emphasized that it is absurd for the US to accuse Iran of meddling while Washington itself is deeply involved in Iraq’s political, legal, and social affairs.

He highlighted that the US Embassy in Baghdad interferes in even the most minor legislative matters, exerting pressure on Iraqi politicians across various factions, including Shia and Kurdish groups.

The expert also pointed to the overt actions of the US ambassador, who has pressured Shia politicians directly. Khalaf recalled the controversial efforts by US President Donald Trump’s envoy to manipulate political alliances in Iraq, which turned into a scandal.

Moreover, he questioned the legality of US control over Iraqi assets, which are often seized under the guise of legal frameworks. Khalaf’s remarks come in the wake of Rubio’s discussions with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, where he emphasized the need to disarm resistance groups, a statement that has sparked considerable public outcry in Iraq.
