Hamas, Sharm el-Sheikh, Trump’s Representatives
TEHRAN (Iran News) Situated on the coast of the Red Sea, Sharm el-Sheikh is world-renowned for its crystal-clear waters, coral islands, and unique marine life. It has a hot and dry desert climate and enjoys abundant sunshine throughout the year. The surrounding rocky mountains and deserts create breathtaking landscapes, making it one of the top global destinations for diving and marine tourism.
The Sharm el-Sheikh International Airport connects the city efficiently to the global transportation network. The city boasts numerous recreational facilities and luxury hotels and is often referred to as the “City of Peace.”
Generally, this city can be characterized by the major summits it has hosted, including: Peace Diplomacy; Economic Diplomacy; Climate Diplomacy; The 1999 Palestinian Agreement; The 2015 Economic Conference; The 2005 Ceasefire Summit; The World Youth Forum; The establishment of the “Loss and Damage Fund”; and through these events, Sharm el-Sheikh has become a global city with a diplomatic identity.
Sharm el-Sheikh is not merely a tourist destination — it is also a symbol of diplomacy. Its unique geography and calm atmosphere have made it an ideal venue for historic Middle East peace summits and for major global conferences, such as COP27. From Palestinian–Israeli accords to the fight against climate change, Sharm el-Sheikh has repeatedly witnessed international efforts to build a more peaceful and sustainable future.
Now, Donald Trump has chosen this city for a meeting with Hamas and Islamic Jihad — aiming, it appears, to come to Netanyahu’s aid and rescue him from the Gaza quagmire. The city has been selected as the venue for talks between Trump’s representatives — Jared Kushner (his son-in-law) and Witkoff — and the representatives of the people of Gaza, intended to discuss and possibly implement Trump’s 20-point plan.
Apparently, the Israeli side is not present, and their great “parent figure” (a reference to Trump) is playing the role of savior. We must now wait for the outcome of this meeting to be announced, to see how the regime’s withdrawal from Gaza, the entry of humanitarian supplies, and the preservation of Gaza’s military capabilities will emerge from the provisions of this 20-point plan.
