Colombian president condemns US attack on Venezuelan boat
TEHRAN (Iran News) President of Colombia Gustavo Petro has condemned the recent US attack on a vessel off the coast of Venezuela, describing it as the murder of poor Caribbean youth.
In a post on his X account on Friday, Petro stated, “On that boat are poor Caribbean youths. Launching missiles when they can be intercepted, as Colombia does, violates the universal legal principle of proportionality and therefore, constitutes murder.”
He also rejected US claims that the boats were carrying drug trafficking terrorists, asserting, “There are no narco-terrorists on the boats. Drug traffickers live in the US, Europe, and Dubai.”
This attack, targeting a vessel suspected of drug trafficking, marks at least the fourth military strike against vessels near Venezuela’s shores since early September.
On Friday, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that Washington had conducted another attack on a vessel near Venezuela under orders from US President Donald Trump, claiming it was transporting significant amounts of drugs destined for the US.
On September 2, the US attack on a suspected drug-trafficking boat resulted in the deaths of 11 crew members. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed this deadly attack on a vessel reportedly linked to drug trafficking from Venezuela. “Colombian president”
Tensions between Washington and Caracas escalated following the deployment of over 4,000 US troops near Venezuela’s coast, alongside eight missile-equipped warships, a nuclear submarine, and ten F-35 fighter jets to Puerto Rico, all under the pretext of combating drug cartels. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stated that his country faces the greatest continental threat in a century due to US actions.
