Arab, Islamic states condemn Israeli attack on Qatar as a threat to regional, global security
TEHRAN (Iran News) Arab and Islamic countries have strongly condemned an Israeli strike on Qatar earlier this month, reaffirming that “the cowardly and unlawful” attack added to the regime’s criminal record that threatens regional and international peace and security.
Heads of state from the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held an extraordinary summit in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on Monday, six days after Israel struck a building in the city, where negotiators from the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement were discussing a US peace proposal for Gaza.
The summit, convened at the invitation of Qatar, discussed the Israeli airstrike on Doha and the regime’s continuous “violations” of Palestinians’ rights in the war-ravaged Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
In their final communique carried by Qatar’s official news agency, the Arab and Islamic heads of state condemned “in the strongest possible terms, the cowardly and unlawful attack carried out by Israel on 9 September 2025 against a residential neighborhood in the Qatari capital, Doha, which included housing facilities designated by the State for hosting negotiating delegations in the framework of Qatar’s multiple mediation efforts, in addition to a number of schools, nurseries, and diplomatic missions, resulting in martyrs, including a Qatari citizen, and injuries among civilians.”
This attack constitutes “a flagrant act of aggression” against Qatar, and represents “a grave escalation exposing the aggressiveness” of Israel, adding to “its criminal record that threatens regional and international peace and security,” according to the communique.
The Arab and Islamic top officials reaffirmed their “absolute support for the sisterly State of Qatar,” which is a principal mediator in efforts to secure a ceasefire and end the war on Gaza. They also reaffirmed their united stand with Qatar in confronting the Israeli aggression considered “a flagrant violation of sovereignty” of the Persian Gulf Arab country.
The communique criticized the international community for its silence in the face of repeated Israeli violations, which they said has “emboldened Israel to persist in its aggressions and to further entrench its flagrant violations of international law and international legitimacy, thereby perpetuating a policy of impunity, weakening the international justice system, and threatening to dismantle the rules-based global order.”
The Arab and Islamic heads of state called for urgent action by the international community to halt Israel’s repeated aggressions in West Asia, and warned of “the grave consequences of continued international inaction in curbing Israeli aggressiveness,” including its aggression against Qatar, its ongoing and “escalating brutal assault on the occupied Gaza Strip,” settlement practices in the West Bank, and its continued aggressions against Lebanon, Syria, and Iran.
All these constitute “flagrant breaches of international law and blatant violations of State sovereignty,” they stressed.
While condemning Israel for its attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians, and for its actions causing “an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe,” the Arab and Islamic officials called on all countries to take all possible legal and effective measures to prevent Israel from continuing its actions against the Palestinian people.
They urged the countries to support efforts to end Israel’s impunity, hold the regime accountable for its violations and crimes, impose sanctions on it, suspend “the supply, transfer, or transit of weapons, ammunition, and military materials,” review diplomatic and economic relations with the regime, and initiate legal proceedings against it.
