Attacks on journalists are ‘crime against humanity,’ says Gaza Media Office
TEHRAN (Iran News) The Government Media Office in Gaza says Israel is deliberately targeting journalists and aid workers, which is in clear violation of international law and constitutes a blatant crime against humanity.
The office issued a statement on Tuesday, a day after a double Israeli strike killed 20 people, including health workers and six journalists working for international media outlets. The strike hit Nasser Hospital in the city of Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
The enemy’s two-stage attacks are a criminal tactic, banned under international law, that clearly show the Zionist regime’s intention to bring about as many casualties as possible among civilians and rescue workers, said the statement carried by Al Jazeera news network.
The attacks on hospitals, rescue workers, and journalists are a crime against humanity, it added.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023, Israel has repeatedly struck hospitals and medical centers sheltering displaced Palestinians. Journalists have also come under fire in what observers describe as a systematic campaign to silence reporting and block the Palestinian narrative from reaching the world.
On Tuesday, Tsvi Yehezkel, chief commentator for Israel’s i24 channel, openly endorsed the killing of journalists working in Gaza, alleging they serve Hamas. Speaking during a live broadcast, he argued that these journalists operate against Israel and said such killings “should have started earlier.”
