60,000 Tons of Imported Rice Distributed Across Iran as Prices Set to Fall
TEHRAN (Iran News) According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad, the announcement was made during a meeting between Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and ministry officials. Minister Nouri, while honoring the memory of Iran’s martyrs and expressing sorrow over the recent deaths of commanders, scientists, and civilians in the Israeli assault, highlighted the government’s efforts to manage the market for essential goods during the 12-day war.
He noted that from the very first hours of the attack — while he was abroad in Kazakhstan — an emergency task force was formed to oversee the market for essential food items.
Throughout the conflict, the crisis management committee continued its meetings, with field inspections carried out in several provinces. Provincial officials consistently submitted monitoring reports to ensure market stability.
“With national unity and coordination, the supply and distribution of essential goods during the 12 days of war were even smoother than in normal times,” said Nouri. “Inflation and food prices actually decreased during this period.”
He reassured the public that food items remain abundantly available in both markets and storage facilities, and praised farmers and producers for their readiness to maintain and increase production.
Nouri also thanked the public for avoiding panic buying during the conflict, contributing to successful market control.
Addressing the spike in rice prices during the war, Nouri said, “Despite sufficient supplies of cooking oil, rice prices temporarily surged. By distributing 60,000 tons of imported rice, we aim to bring prices down to a logical level soon.”
In addition to rice, more than 40,000 tons of flour were also distributed, and in tourist-heavy provinces, mobile bakeries were deployed, with many bakeries operating around the clock to meet demand.
Nouri highlighted that Iran’s agricultural sector recorded a 5.6% growth in value-added output for the year 1403 (2024–2025), demonstrating that food security and market stability have been achieved without halting exports or neglecting the needs of consumers and producers.
