Iran vows to ‘do all in its power’ to counter terrorists in coordination with neighbors
TEHRAN (Iran News) In a live televised interview on Monday night, Pezeshkian said that his telephone conversations with his Syrian and Russian counterparts, as well as the Qatari emir and the Iraqi prime minister, focused on the issue that “terrorists and conspirators should not be allowed to drag the region into war and bloodshed again.”
“We respect the territorial integrity of all countries, which we believe should not be violated under any pretexts,” he added.
“We will do our best to establish security and peace, and confront terrorists. We will coordinate our efforts with the neighboring, brotherly, and friendly countries.”
The remarks came as Syria is grappling with resurgence of Takfiri terrorism, sponsored by the US and Israel, after the pair failed in the bloody war on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
Iran was the first country to rush to Syria’s aid following the 2011 outbreak of foreign-sponsored violence in the Arab country.
In 2017, Syrian forces, backed by Iran and Russia, scored a monumental victory over the Daesh terrorist group.
However, the country’s northern parts remained under control of militants and foreign occupation forces.
Foreign-backed terror outfits, led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Shams (HTS), waged a surprise two-pronged attack on Syria’s Aleppo and the countryside around Idlib on Wednesday, and soon afterwards captured several areas before moving toward neighboring Hama province.
However, Syria’s armed forces are continuing to fight foreign-backed terrorist groups in the northwestern part of the country, inflicting heavy losses on them.
