TEHRAN (Iran News) According to the public relations department of the Iran Trade Development Organization, citing the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, Mohammad Ali Dehghan Dehnavi emphasized the importance of non-oil exports, particularly those grounded in a knowledge-based economy, for enhancing the country’s economic security and development.

Dehnavi highlighted that reliance on oil, raw materials, and semi-processed goods for exports has been a critical weakness, especially during sanctions and international restrictions.

He further stated that economic studies reveal a significant correlation between economic growth and the advancement of knowledge-based economies. Such exports are less vulnerable to external limitations, as they are built on human expertise and production capacity rather than dependence on natural resources.

Based on customs data from the Islamic Republic of Iran, knowledge-based companies contributed 2.6% of the export weight and 5% of the total export value in 2023. Advanced materials and products derived from chemical technologies accounted for approximately 80% of the export value in this sector.

Dehnavi added that while the current share is modest, knowledge-based companies are undoubtedly key players in Iran’s economy. Strengthening exports from this sector is a top priority for the Trade Development Organization.

He also stressed the need to boost Iran’s position in innovation and technology across various domains. Enhancing international trade cooperation and showcasing the potential of Iranian companies, particularly in the knowledge-based sector, requires organizing more events to facilitate interaction among key stakeholders in this ecosystem.
