TEHRAN (Iran News) In a statement on Wednesday, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei roundly deplored the allegations made by the UK official, saying such hackneyed anti-Iran accusations have been leveled over the past two years without a shred of evidence or documentation.
His comments came after the head of Britain’s MI5 intelligence agency alleged that Iran has increased its number of “potentially lethal” plots on the UK soil.
MI5 director general Ken McCallum alleged that Britain was experiencing a staggering rise in assassination attempts and other crimes by Russia and Iran, with these countries allegedly recruiting criminals to “do their dirty work.”
In response, Baqaei pointed to the UK authorities’ recurrent use of the term “potential” about the fabricated accusations against Iran, saying the British security organizations’ allegations against Tehran are part of the policy of inventing fake enemies and diverting the public opinion’s attention from the UK government’s role in the unrelenting massacre of Palestinians and the Zionist regime’s warmongering policies in the region.
The Iranian spokesman also advised the UK officials to use their influence to stop the Israeli regime’s acts of aggression and crimes instead of leveling baseless accusations and raising misleading issues.
He also lashed out at London for hosting a series of notorious terrorist groups that abuse the concept of freedom of speech to promote violence, terrorism and hatred in a systematic manner.
Highlighting the legal responsibilities of all governments to counter terrorism and provocation of violence, Baqaei called on the UK to reconsider its “unconstructive policies” towards the Iranian people and the West Asia region.
