TEHRAN (Iran News) –Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Amirabdollahian hailed Palestinian resistance group Hamas for approving a proposal, within the framework of its principles, for a ceasefire in Gaza put forward by Egypt and Qatar.
He said he thought “everything will be available for a sustainable ceasefire” in Gaza and the settlement of conflict if the Americans and other Westerners fulfill their promise and honor, in the true sense, the truce in the current stage.
“According to an unwritten agreement with the Western parties, we concentrated on a ceasefire in Gaza. The Westerners told us that they would move in that direction. Today, positive impacts have arisen in this regard,” Amirabdollahian said, IRNA reported.
He also took a swipe at the Israeli regime’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and a few other extremists for making every effort to prolong the war, saying they are aware that a ceasefire in Gaza could translate into a new crisis inside the occupied territories.
The Israeli regime has rejected an Egyptian-Qatari ceasefire proposal for Gaza and launched an operation in Rafah, raising fears that the war in Gaza could drag on.
At least 34,789 people have been killed and 78,204 wounded in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
