Iran Asks Iraq to Honor Deal on KRG-Based Terrorists
Iran’s highest-ranking commander called for the full implementation of an agreement with Iraq on the disarmament and relocation of anti-Iranian terrorist groups in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –In a meeting with Iraqi Minister of Interior Abdul Amir al-Shammari, held in Tehran on Wednesday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri stressed the need for joint action against the terrorist and secessionist groups in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

He emphasized that an agreement between Tehran and Baghdad, which entails disarmament of the KRG-based terrorists and their relocation to camps under control, must be carried out in full.

Hailing the cooperation between the Iranian and Iraqi border guards, the top commander said strict action against drug and arms trafficking will ensure the security of the common border and help promote bilateral trade relations.

Expansion of relations with Iraq is a strategic and national decision of Iran, the general stated, giving an assurance that the passing away of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a recent tragic helicopter crash would by no means affect the growing ties between the two neighbors.

For his part, al-Shammari said the Iraqi Interior Ministry’s efforts have resulted in increased security across Iraq.

He also expressed the Arab country’s readiness to work with Iran in various fields, such as the exchange of military cadets and sharing experiences.

The two officials further discussed plans for the security of pilgrims during this year’s Arbaeen season.
