TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran will produce over five million tons of sugar beet by the end of the current calendar year (March 2021).
Peyman Hesadi, the manager of the Iranian Agriculture Ministry’s ‘Sugar Beet Project’, added since March 20, over 1,100 hectares of farmlands under sugar beet cultivation in the country have been harvested and 60,000 tons of the crop have been delivered to domestic sugar cube factories, IRNA reported.
This has been achieved in the light of this year’s good harvest and the recent inauguration of a number of sugar cube plants in western Iranian provinces, including West Azarbaijan, he said.
Hesadi added Iran is expected to achieve the mentioned production target by March 2020 given that 99,000 hectares of lands in the country are under the cultivation of sugar beet and most of the farms are in favorable conditions.
