Soraya Springs Railway to Turn Aras Zone Into a Mega Logistic Port

TEHRAN – The managing director of Aras Free Zone says after efforts of Aras Free Zone regarding the construction of Soraya Springs Railway, officials of Iran and Turkey are to visit the location of connection between railways of Iran and Turkey for preparing the final report.
According to the public relations of the zone, Mr. Mohsen Nariman said that during the 72nd meeting of workgroup on evaluation and approval of projects in the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development , the issue of transfer of Iran-Turkey railways through Soraya Springs route was discussed and it was decided the place of connection between two railways and reasons for its implementation to be reviewed thoroughly and after the visit of officials of Iran and Turkey, and then the final report returns to the workgroup.
Nariman added that the feasibility study will be carried out for construction of Jolfa-Soraya Springs railway with double transit track, and in the first stage, one track with capacity of transiting some 10m tons of goods will start operation and at the same time, Turkey is to expand its railway from Kars to Diloji which is exactly on the opposite side of Soraya Springs. And immediately after completion of this 147-kilometer track, Iran’s railway connection to Europe will possible, he noted. He added with construction of this railway, Aras Free Zone will turn into a mega-port and a big logistic hub in the region.
He went on to say that the length of this railway is 28 kilometers, noting that according to the agreement between Aras and Maku free zones, Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI) and Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, the Maku Free Trade Zone with approval of Railways of the Islamic Republic of Iran is in charge of all operations of launching the Jolfa-Soraya Springs Railways, like design of the project till it’s coming on stream.
