TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani called on all producers and exporters to redouble their efforts to increase production and exports, describing the country’s exporters as the soldiers on the frontline of the fight against US economic terrorism.
Rouhani made the remarks on exporters via video conference while inaugurating several industrial projects in Sistan and Baluchestan, Isfahan, and Fars provinces on Thursday, according to the president’s official website.
The president urged all ministers, governors-general, and private sector actors to help increase production more than ever.
“As production increases, employment rises, and also when production and supply of materials increase, prices become balanced naturally, and more importantly, we can expand exports by increasing production”.
He underlined that the country’s enemies, especially the United States, have hatched new plots to harm Iran’s economy by disrupting the country’s foreign currency market and are trying to make it difficult for the country to provide the currency it needs.
The Iranian president also said that the government will ramp up pressure on the country’s exporters to return the hard currency they have earned over the past two and a half years to the forex market where prices have soared to highs not seen in decades.
“Most of the exporters return their currency on time and billions of dollars entered the country today, but unfortunately last year, there were people who were diligent in exporting but did not return their currency in a timely manner, which according to the Central Bank is about 20 billion euros”, he said.
The Iranian currency has lost its value against the US dollar in recent weeks.
In the past two weeks, the rial has continued to slide, dropping from 170,000 rials to 224,000.
“Despite the conspiracies in the cyberspace, I would like to tell the people that with unity, solidarity, effort, consensus and hard work in the path of production, we can well stand against the enemy and solve problems”, the president underlined.
“According to calculations, this year we can earn $41 billion in non-oil exports, which is more than our import needs, and if we all act accordingly, the currency problem will be solved and its price will be balanced”, he said.
Rouhani noted that the inauguration of several projects in one day in the field of industry and mining shows the failure of the enemies’ efforts to advance anti-Iranian policies.
