TEHRAN – Caretaker of Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry says by the double growth of berths at Chabahar Port, Chabahar will become Iran’s the third logistic and commercial port.

Speaking on the sidelines of ceremony for inaugurating some projects, Hussein Modarres Khiabani said today was the fifth station of campaign on production and continuation of hope, adding that so far and in five weeks, 25 important industrial projects worth 1300b tomans with an eye for creating 3000 jobs have been inaugurated.

He added that on Thursday, six new projects were inaugurated, noting that two mega mining projects came on stream with an eye to produce 3.5m tons of pellet and 1.8m tons of sponge iron with an investment around 5000b tomans.

Mr. Modarres said that during the 11th and 12th governments, the steel production has been doubled, noting that the same amount of growth has also been seen in other chains of steel production, namely, the production of iron concentrate has been doubled in the same period and iron pellet production has grown by 120 percent, and sponge iron production has almost grown by 90 percent.

He further said by implementation of these two mega projects in Fars Province, the total iron pellet production capacity can hit 56m tons and the total sponge iron production capacity will touch 36.8m tons. He further said another industrial project, dubbed Shadineh Aran Hasht Behesht, came on stream in Isfahan with investment around 540b tomans which creates 300 jobs and it can produce 95,000 tons of different glucose, gluten and starch.

Baft Baluch textile plant in Sistan and Baluchistan was the other project which came on stream on Thursday. This project was inaugurated yesterday after 5 years hiatus due to arson and on Thursday, its first phase started operation with an investment around 200m tomans.

Modarres Khiabani pointed to the growth in berths of vessels at Chabahar Port, saying that in the first quarter of the year, over 100,000 tons of goods, more than the total amount of goods last year, have been loaded or unloaded at the port and the port’s logistic is being expanded.

He expressed hope that by developments at the port, Chabahar would become the country’s third major commercial port. He reiterated the total amount of investment for six projects which were inaugurated on Thursday stood at 5800b tomans.
