TEHRAN (Iran News) – A high-ranking Afghan delegation led by the caretaker of the Foreign Ministry of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Hanif Atmar will be visiting Iran on Sunday for talks on a broad range of issues, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyed Abbas Mousavi said.
Heading a ranking political, economic, and security delegation, Hanif Atmar will be visiting Iran on June 21, Mousavi said on Saturday.
During the two-day stay in Iran, the Afghan delegation is going to hold meetings with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and other Iranian officials for talks on a broad range of topics, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson noted.
The Afghan delegation will hold meetings in Iran within the framework of various task forces on the document of comprehensive cooperation between Iran and Afghanistan, economic cooperation, border cooperation, cooperation on issues relating to the Afghan nationals, media cooperation, security cooperation, health cooperation, and the task force on cooperation in the field of water and energy, Mousavi said.
A few days ago, the presidential palace of Afghanistan played host to a meeting to weigh plans for closer cooperation with Iran in ensuring security along the common border and combatting smugglers and traffickers.
In the meeting, chaired by Vice President of Afghanistan Amrullah Saleh, the participants discussed ways to promote cooperation with Iran to ensure the common border’s security, fight against the smugglers and traffickers, and promote collaboration between the border guards of the two neighbors.
