President Endorses Control of Commute in 11 Provinces

TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani yesterday approved his health minister’s recommendation to restrict commute in 11 provinces to contain the spread of Coronavirus.
In the meeting of Anti-Coronavirus Fight Base, President Rouhani accepted the recommendation to close entries to 11 provinces in order to restrict people from unnecessary travels and spread of the virus.
He termed this recommendation a useful way to contain the spread of the virus in the country which is on the rise.
Meanwhile president underscored that the main need of society is to provide calmness based on the accurate briefing, saying that the government is obliged to calm the society with timely, accurate and explicit information on the issue of coronavirus outbreak.
Emphasizing the need for accurate, clear and transparent information on countering the disease, Rouhani said: “The main need of society is to make calmness with a focus on accurate awareness and increased public participation.”
The President said that some media outlets seek to disrupt the psychological calmness of society, adding: “We are committed to showcasing the sincere and dedicated efforts of the country’s medical staff, which has so far saved many lives and prevented further outbreaks of disease.”
Rouhani said that all countries are now fighting the virus, but, the US sanctions have created major obstacles in the way of providing medical and emergency supplies from abroad to stem the threat posed to humanity by the epidemic.
He said that the society needs calm, information accuracy and encouraging public participation now, adding that the self-sacrifice and efforts of the medical staff of the country that have stopped the virus from further spread should be taken into account.
He said that what has made possible the today’s efforts is the measures taken by the government in the past few years to bolster the medical and health infrastructures, which should clearly and precisely be reflected to the people in order to fight the baseless rumors.
Thanking the media for their efforts to mobilize national capacities in fighting the coronavirus, President Rouhani said the media should try to stop politicizing the issue.
