TEHRAN (Iran News) – More than 15,600 foreign students of Iranian universities have been allowed to return to their own countries without any difficulty following the outbreak of the COVID-19, an official said.
The director-general of the Iranian Science Ministry’s office of foreign students said on Wednesday that 15,680 foreign students have left Iran for their respective countries at the end of Autumn semester 2020, as part of plans to contain the coronavirus epidemic.
A few days after the outbreak of COVID-19 Iran, the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology, the Immigration and Passport Police Office, and a number of other organizations made arrangements to let the foreign students leave the country in the shortest time possible and without bureaucratic processes, Abdolhamid Alizadeh said.
He added that the foreign governments and families of the students have been satisfied with the process of repatriation of their loved ones, with Minister of External Affairs of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar expressing gratitude to the Iranian officials in a message.
He went on to say that the foreign students of universities across Iran, like Iranian students, can attend virtual and online classes in the new semester.
The outbreak of the coronavirus has led to the closure of schools and universities across Iran. The educational centers will remain closed for at least two more weeks during the new Iranian year’s holidays.
