Saudis Inclined to Obeisance Resulted From Fear

With a drastic change in the political texture in the power structure in West Asia, today there is no country in the region especially in the Persian Gulf that does not want seriously to restore diplomatic relation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

One of these countries can actually be Saudi Arabia which is situated at the end of the Persian Gulf which constantly carries recommendations of neighboring countries on its shoulders to change its approach towards Iran and to come to terms with Tehran on its foreign policies agenda.

Just recently Lebanese newspaper Al-Anba by quoting its French sources revealed Riyadh’s will to negotiate with Iran after Aramco oil facilities saga, and in a way expressed its will for talks which is considered as some sort of giving with one hand and taking back with the other. But their fear that their master does not let them negotiate has kept them in limbo and indecisive.

According to Al-Anba report, the French sources quoted some Saudi officials as saying that after Yemenis’ attack on Aramco oil facilities in September 2019, Saudi Arabia was willing to talk with Iran because it believes Iran has noticeable influence in Yemen and it can push the climate towards a comparative peace and lead to a de-escalation in the region because Saudi Arabia is not prepared for more attacks on Aramco and ultimately on Saudi Arabia’s economic heart. These sources have also claimed that Saudi officials had talks with U.S. President Trump to get his approval for talks with Iran. The sources added that instead, Americans by offering different promises to Riyadh prevented them from talks with Iran and more proximity between these two countries of Iran and Saudi Arabia in the foreign policies in the West Asia because it was not assessed in favor of their objectives.

The French sources quoting Saudi officials as saying, “Americans told Saudi officials that after anti-government protests which started about two months ago in Iraq, Lebanon and Iran, Iran’s establishment is in a critical condition and because of Iran’s growing weakness, there is essentially no need to talks with Tehran.”

They reiterated that Saudi Arabia insisted on this belief that there was possibility for talks between Riyadh and Tehran and having a win-win achievement and agreement on some complicated issues in the region and even different cases between both states.

During resignation of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Saudis gave concession to Iran to get Tehran’s approval for Hariri’s removal and they expect Tehran to convince Houthis in Yemen to recognize pro-Saudi Arabia parties in Yemen and in other words, they wanted to replace revolutionary policies with compromise.

But they do not notice this point that Ansarullah forces have a resurrectional approach towards the regional developments and accepting Saudis’ demand is totally in contradiction with Ansarullah’s ideology.

Today the process of changes in the region, and especially incapability and weak strategy of the U.S. in confrontation between hegemony and Tehran, has pushed the world towards this belief that the U.S. is at the end of dominance and even on its federative system. Saudis also know that their reliance on the U.S. will keep the climate in two different standards and the region will see no peace and tranquility.

Strategically, the unity between Iran, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will turn the ground of dispute into peace and stability in the region and even it may accelerate the formation of Islamic nations and governments.

What today, especially after hideous terrorist act of the U.S. in assassinating Lieutenant General Qassenm Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, has taken the role of interaction is de-escalation and reducing probable regional conflicts and this is only possible by the U.S. pullout from the region.

If the Saudi Family reach this conclusion that instead of relying the U.S., a country miles away from the region, they rely on Iran, the condition will totally change.

Tasting sweet flavor of unity over the commonalities in beliefs has always been the dream of people in the region and always obstacles like Wahhabis’ approach and the U.S. interests have never let countries in the West Asia materialize this dream
