Minister Warns People to Take Coronavirus Seriously

TEHRAN – Health and Medical Education Minister Saeed Namaki yesterday warned the nation over culmination of coronavirus this week and urged people to take medical and precautionary adviceseriously and to avoid unnecessary travels.

Namaki who is head of the Anti-Corona Headquarters after the headquarters meeting expressed his gratitude over Supreme Leader’s message on the efforts of medical sector of the country in dealing with coronavirus.

He said although the ministry has prepared and mobilized hospitals in the country but the country has a tough week ahead.

He said his colleagues in the health system have studied the condition of this virus in other countries and they have found that the climax of this disease will be this week but it does not mean that people panic.

Namaki once again reiterated that the ministry does not believe in quarantining the contaminated cities and towns because it is not a scientific solution. He later underlined that the headquarters have programs to impose some restrictions for those who travel.

He went on to say that restrictions on commuting of suspected infected individuals, three days of school closures in the infected provinces; and a week closure for universities.

Namaki also declared that schools and universities will be closed by Monday.

He said classes will be held by distance-learning and with the help of broadcasting media.

He urged Iranians to avoid unnecessary travels because in case they were found suspected of being infected with conronavirus, they well be kept in quarantine four two weeks.

He also said that governor generals can decide on cutting the working hours in the contaminated cities and towns.

The minister also vowed that the country would surprise the world with its way of dealing with a coronavirus.

Touching upon Supreme Leader’s message, the minister said in his letter that all government departments had joined in the fight against coronavirus in a “unique show” of solidarity.

“This, without any question, would surprise the entire world when the disease is brought to its knees,” wrote Namaki.

He said that Iran’s swift response to the coronavirus outbreak had come despite the growing economic pressure on the country due to the American sanctions.

Meanwhile yesterday, Head of the Iran’s Health Ministry’s public relations office Kianoush Jahanpour said on Friday that 34 Iranians have passed away due to coronavirus.

He went on to say that 388 people have been affected by the virus so far.

The average age of the deceased has been reported over 60, he pointed out.

Iran has temporarily shut down schools, universities, and other education centers, and cancelled all the public gatherings like concerts and sport events to help curb the disease.
