TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Army forces of Iran expressed readiness to work in cooperation with the Health Ministry in the battle against the novel coronavirus epidemic, known as COVID-19, in the country.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Health Minister Saeed Namaki on Tuesday, Deputy Chief of Iran Army for Coordination Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said he has been ordered by the Army Commander to make arrangements with the Health Ministry in the efforts to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.

“In the Army, we have facilities for combat in the real conditions, and we are also prepared to employ the Army’s domestic capacities at the macro level in this crisis and to help the Health Ministry in quarantine (practices) or in training at the macro level if necessary,” the general added.

According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in the country has risen to 15 and the total number of confirmed cases to 95.

At least 24 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered from the disease after being admitted to the hospital.

Earlier, in remarks on Tuesday, Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali hailed the “national resolve and the coordination at the highest administrative levels” following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Iran, saying the efforts have resulted in “relative containment” of the disease.

It means that the number of new cases in Iran will decrease in the coming weeks and the progression of the infectious disease will enter the period of decline, he added.
