New Delhi, Tehran to Mark 70th Anniversary of Treaty of Friendship

According To Iran News, India and Iran on March 15 will mark the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic relation.

During the ceremony held at Parsian Azadi Hotel of Tehran marking India’s 71st Republic Day with some distinguished diplomats and guests in presence, Indian Ambassador to Tehran H.E. Gaddam Dharmendra hailed Iran and India’s all-out relations, expressing hope the relations would improve in the future.

Addressing the participants in the ceremony, Mr. Dharmendra said that on March 15, 1950, Iran and India started their diplomatic ties and this year both countries will mark the 70th anniversary of their ties.

He said that India was marking the 71st Republic Day, adding, “For a centuries old civilization, this is a small milestone. Seven decades ago on this day January 26, India’s Constitutions came into effect and in 1950, India earmarked its journey as a Republic.”

Dharmendra also pointed to Iran and India’s relations, adding both countries are ancient civilizations sharing historical and cultural years. He noted that this year both countries will celebrate 70th anniversary of signing of the India Iran Treaty of Friendship which was signed on March 15, 1950.

He also reiterated that India-Iran bilateral relations continue to be marked by warmth. He further pointed to the recent high level meetings between officials of both countries.

Mr. Dharmendra the highlighted handful of developments in both countries’ relations in recent years.

He stated that cooperation in Chahbahar Port will strengthen ties between both states, announcing that India has received some waivers from the U.S. for installing special cranes for loading and unloading in the port.

He emphasized that India is determined to continue its cooperation with Iran and both states are looking for ways of cooperation.

The Indian diplomat went on to say that soon a delegation from Iran’s marine sector and organization is to visit India to discuss ways of cooperation especially in Chahbahar Port.

Dharmendra also welcomed the chief guest of the ceremony Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi.

Araqchi, for his part, and addressing the participants in the ceremony highlighted some developments in bilateral relations of Iran and India, noting that India has developed its ties with Iran despite the U.S. sanctions.

He expressed hope that both countries would improve their ties in the future like what they have done in the past.

He also appreciated Iran’s stance s in some cases regarding Iran, adding that Iran is determined to strengthen with countries like India.

Earlier yesterday, Indian nationals gathered at Indian Embassy to attend flag-hoisting ceremony on the occasion of the Republic Day.
