TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Omani counterpart, Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, held talks in Tehran on Monday.
In the meeting between Zarif and Yusuf bin Alawi cooperation and ties between Tehran and Muscat was discussed.
Zarif and bin Alawi also discussed the latest developments in the region and the world.
Iran and Oman share age-old and close diplomatic, economic, and commercial ties.
Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said played an important role in facilitating the early stages of nuclear talks between Iran and the world power which resulted in the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Iran and Oman have also held several naval exercises in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman in recent years.
On April 19, high-ranking military officials from Iran and Oman signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation between the two neighboring countries in various military spheres.
The Omani minister, for his part, said the ground is prepared for raising trade exchange to the target levels, unveiling plans for detailed talks on the issue in the next session of Iran-Oman joint economic commission.
Iran and Oman enjoy age-old and close ties and their relations have become even closer after the two sides’ agreements to boost mutual cooperation especially on economic fields.
