Larijani Highlights Iran’s Progress in Industrial Fields despite US Pressures
According To Iran News, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani highlighted the US government’s continued hostilities toward Iranians and said despite Washington’s sanctions and pressures, the Islamic Republic has made good progress in industrial fields.
During a speech at a ceremony to inaugurate a power plant in the northwestern city of Sardasht on Tuesday, Larijani highlighted Iran’s progress in various industries despite US sanctions and said, “The project that was inaugurated today is one of the largest development projects in the northwest of the country.”
“At a time when the US has made us face numerous problems in the area of economy, we should overcome the problems wisely and through correct planning,” he said.
There are many organizations and manpower capacities that are available now and should be used through public and private sectors, he went on to say.
The remarks come against the backdrop of increased tensions between Iran and the US with Washington imposing new sanctions against the Islamic Republic.
The US has ratcheted up pressure on Iran since last year after withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Since then, the administration of US President Donald Trump is trying to reduce Iran’s oil exports to “zero,” and has sent an aircraft carrier strike group, a bomber squad, an amphibious assault ship, and a Patriot missile battery to the Middle East to try to stack up pressure on Tehran.
Iranian officials, however, have dismissed such moves as psychological warfare, saying the country has its own ways of circumventing the American bans and selling crude oil.
