Bangladeshi Traders Keen to Boost Cooperation With Sistan and Baluchistan Province
TEHRAN - Bangladesh Embassy Commercial Counsellor  to Tehran Md. Sobur Hossain says Bangladeshi economic activists are interested in expanding their interactions with their Iranian counterparts especially traders of Sistan and Baluchestan Province.

Hossain yesterday in Zahedan met director general of Attracting and Supporting  Investment Bureau in  Sistan and Baluchestan Province Governor General  and during the meeting  he reiterated the interests of Bangladeshi businessmen for cooperation with Iran.

He said Sistan and Baluchestan due to its strategic location and having access to the ocean has huge economic capacities like in fishery, agriculture, tourism and mineral industries, adding that those capacity can bolster economic relation in the region.

He then pointed to some economic capacities and capabilities in several fields like having 15 special trade zones, leather industries, home appliances and textile production and exports of them to the American and European states. He also called for paving the ground for exports of clinker from Sistan and Baluchestan to Bangladesh.

Mr. Hossain added that Bangladesh Prime Minister has predicted some incentives for attracting foreign investments and for this reason Bangladesh government would call on traders from countries especially Iran to invest in Bangladesh.

He invested enthusiasts for investment in the textile and apparel sectors, and urged investors to take advantage of this opportunity by setting up textile factories in Bangladesh and exporting the products to Iran.

Meanwhile director of the Attracting and Supporting Investment Bureau of the Sistan and Baluchestan Governor General  Mr. Majid Mohebbi pointed to the characteristics of the province and its land and marine borders with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Oman, reiterating that the province is on important strategic and transit location especially Chabahar Port which is Iran’s only port which has access to the ocean and it makes easy the access and transportation to the Central Asian countries and free waters.

He added that due to proximity of the province to Bangladesh, there is tendency among investors and economic activists for cooperation and investment in the apparel and textile sector.

Sistan and Baluchestan Province, after Kerman Province, is the second largest province of Iran with an area over 1600 kilometers. It is in the southeast of the country, bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan and its capital is Zahedan
