He then pointed to the strategic relations of both countries and urged the Chinese envoy to pursue this cooperation spirit when he returns to his country.

Dejpasand also expressed hope that the new Chinese envoy would be active for expanding mutual ties with Tehran like what Mr. Pang did during his term in Tehran.

The Chinese diplomat who has finished his five-year term in Tehran, for his part, said that bilateral economic cooperation between Iran and China have progressed well during Mr. Dejpasand’s tenure.

He pointed to travels of both countries’ presidents as well as Iran’s Majlis Speaker’s visit to Beijing as the brilliant era in the relations of both countries.

Earlier in April, Dejpasand attended the joint economic commission meeting of Iran and China in Beijing. During the meeting, Mr. Dejpasand pointed to the bilateral economic cooperation between Iran and China, adding that China hadbeen Iran’s first trade partner in the past years and the average trade volume of both countries hadbeen around $35b.

He also said that Iran’s exports to China in 2018 stood at $21.1b while Iran’s imports from China stood at $14.3b in the same period.

The U.S. pullout of the JCPOA and the country’s sanctions on Iran has overshadowed economic relations of these two strategic partners.

According to reports, China’s exports to Iran in the last quarter of 2018 nosedived and the country’s exports to Iran were only around $400m in last December. In other words, China’s exports to Iran in the last two months of 2018 fell sharply by 70 percent.
