TEHRAN – Iranian director Morteza Esmaeil-Kashi plans to stage a musical based on “Corpse Bride”, the 2005 animated fantasy hit by Tim Burton and Mike Johnson, during spring or summer 2019.

“All musicals ever performed in Iran have been based on classical stories, but my musical is a modern fantasy, which will be performed with jazz music,” he told the Persian service of MNA on Monday.

A cast composed of 11 leading actors and numerous actor-singers will be hired for the project, in which actor Navid Mohammadzadeh will collaborate as a producer.

“Corpse Bride” starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter is about a shy groom who practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman as she rises from the grave assuming he has married her.
