Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev said Iran’s presence in Syria is advisory, stressing that there are no Iranian forces on the Arab country’s soil in south.
Interfax news agency quoted Lavrentiev as saying on Monday that the Russia-US summit held in Helsinki, Finland, only covered issues of security and cooperation between the two countries.
He also said that Iranian forces are no longer present in southern Syria.
Lavrentiev acknowledged deployment of Iranian advisers in Syria, whose presence was at the official request of the legitimate Syrian government.
He added that militant groups in the south of the Arab country have indicated willingness for reconciliation.
In recent years, the Middle East has been plagued with Takfiri terrorist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS), which are believed to have been created and supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist groups, which claim to be Islamic but whose actions are anything but, have been committing heinous crimes not only against non-Muslims but mostly against Muslims in the region.
Iraq and Syria have been among the countries gripped by terrorism.
Iran, a close ally of the two countries, has supported their legitimate governments in their campaign against foreign-backed militancy and terrorism.
