TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani hosted an iftar dinner at Tehran’s Summit Conference Hall on Wednesday night for dozens of artists and cultural figures to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan.
The representatives of artists in various fields delivered speeches on their professional problems and asked Rouhani’s government to find solutions for the obstacles.
Actors Ali Nasirian, Fatemeh Motamed-Arya and Setareh Eskandari gave lectures on factors thwarting film projects.
Addressing Rouhani, Eskandari said, “You have talked of dialogue, but we are still facing the closed doors whose keys are in your hands. We need solutions and are tired perhaps, but we will not become disappointed. We are the people, listen to us.”
President also in his brief remarks said that he believes the artists’ words need to be heard by the government.
In posts published on social networks last Tuesday, groups of artists called upon their colleagues to boycott the party due to poverty and poor living condition in the country. However, the Iranian House of Cinema said that its members would attend the program.
A group of Iranian actors, including Parviz Parastui, Mahanaz Afshar, Anahita Hemmati and Sara Bahrami, published the iftar invitation cards they received from the government in posts on the social networks, and said that they would not attend the party in protest of the government’s disregard for the poor condition of people in the quake-stricken regions in Kermanshah, and poverty and poor living condition in the country.
