TEHRAN – An Iranian cultural festival opened in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku on Wednesday, offering a wide variety of programs.
Iran’s National Orchestra conducted by Fereidun Shahbazian, and accompanyed by vocalist Salar Aqili gave a performance at the opening ceremony, which took place at the State Academic Philharmonic Hall.
The Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Abbas Salehi who arrived in Baku on Tuesday at the head of a cultural delegation, attended the opening ceremony.
In his brief remarks, he said that relations between the two countries are increasing everyday, leading to better days in the future.
Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev, who also was attending the opening ceremony, emphasized that cultural cooperation will boost and deepen bilateral ties.
An exhibition of handicrafts, photographs, paintings and traditional clothing is also underway in the Baku Museum Center.
Majid Majidi’s “Muhammad, the Messenger of God”, a film which portrays the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S) from the age of 12 until his appointment to prophethood, was screened in the Nizami Cinema Center on Thursday.
The Titowak Theater Troupe from the southern Iranian city of Bandar Abbas also staged “Divine Comedy, Hell” in the State Musical Theater.
Iran’s National Orchestra gave a second performance in the Ganja State Philharmonic on Thursday.
The festival will be running until July 1.
Also on the sidelines of the event, Iran and Azerbaijan have signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance media cooperation.
The MOU was inked by Deputy Culture Minister for Press Affairs Mohammad Soltanifar and Aflatun Amashov, the Chairman of Azerbaijan Press Council in Baku.
An Azerbaijani cultural festival was organized in Tehran in July 2017.
