The foreign ministers of Iran and Russia met in Moscow on the sidelines of the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of the guarantor states of Astana Process and voiced hope to achieve good results with the efforts for Syria.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with his Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, on Saturday in Moscow.
The two diplomatic chiefs met on the sidelines of the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of guarantor states [Iran, Russian, and Turkey] of the Astana Peace Process.
In the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Lavrov welcomed the Iranian foreign minister and voiced hope that the meeting contribute to realization of stable peace and security in Syria and put an end to this crisis.
“Today we will discuss the JCPOA and the upcoming events about this international treaty,” said Mr. Lavrov.
The Russian FM also expressed his delight about the Iranian national football team being present in the FIFA World Cup of 2018 in Russia.
“I hope that these trilateral meetings end up with good results,” said the Iranian top diplomat referring to numerous meetings between the officials of the three guarantor states of Astana Peace Process [Iran, Russia, and Turkey].
Mr. Zarif also touched upon the recent presidential election in Russia and President Putin’s victory in it and extended greetings on Putin’s re-election.
He also voiced gratitude for Russia’s support for Iran’s rights at interracial venues, especially in the case of Iran’s nuclear agreement.
