TEHRAN – Iran freestyle team finished in second place in the 2018 Asian Wrestling Championship on Sunday.
The Iranian team won three gold medals, one silver and two bronzes in the competition held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
On Saturday, Ezzatollah Akbari built up a commanding 5-0 lead before Uzbekistan’s Rashid Kurbanov defaulted with a knee injury with 0:19 remaining in their 79kg gold-medal match.
In the 97kg final, Mojtaba Goleij lost to Uzbekistan’s Magomed Ibragimov 5-3 and earned a silver medal.
On Sunday, Hassan Yazdani beat Mongolian Orgodolyn Üitümen 10-0 in the 86kg gold-medal match.
Mohammad Javad Ebrahimi also seized a gold medal in the 92kg after defeating Kazakhstan’s Adilet Davlumbayev 5-3 in the final match.
Mostafa Hosseinkhani in 74kg and Amin Taheri in 125kg won two bronze medals.
Iran came second with 157 points and Uzbekistan became champion with 178 points.
Kazakhstan finished in third place with 146 points.
