TEHRAN – UK Secretary of Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson and the Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEAI) Ali Akbar Salehi met in Tehran on Sunday.
“Sunday’s meeting gave us the impression that UK has figured out the bold role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the region so that no issue of the region is solvable without Iran,” said Behrouz Kamalvandi, the Spokesman of the AEOI, on Sunday, touching upon the meeting between the chief of the AEOI, Ali Akbar Salehi and the British Secretary for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Boris Johnson.
Johnson of UK is on a two day visit to Tehran. On Saturday, after arriving Tehran, he met with Foreign Minister Zarif. Shamkhani, the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran and Ali Larijani, the Speaker of Iranian Parliament, were the two other senior officials Johnson met with on Saturday.
“What is discernable from Mr. Johnson’s rhetoric is that Iran should be recognized as the key to resolution of regional crises and the JCPOA is an international subject supported by all countries,” said the Iranian official.
The Iranian official recounted that the AEOI chief conveyed a message to Johnson to be relayed to Americans. He said that it was underlined to be delivered to US that the JCPOA will not be continued with letting Iran benefit from the advantages of the deal.
“Especially in this case the important thing is banking relations because there are no problems in other areas, and they have to make efforts in this arena and maybe the first step can be stopping the procedures which deter big banks from cooperating with Iran,” Kamalvandi affirmed.
