LASHKAR GAH – Four people including three Taliban fighters and one Afghan army personnel were killed and five soldiers sustained injuries after a suicide bomber targeted a military camp in Nawa district of the southern Helmand province on Saturday, spokesman for provincial government Omar Zawak said.
“A Taliban terrorist riding an explosive-laden car was attempting to enter a military camp but was identified and shot dead by security personnel outside the camp today morning. However, two more terrorists accompanying the suicide bomber opened fire on security personnel triggering firefight,” Zawak told reporters here.
“As a result of the blast and fire exchanges which lasted for a while, one soldier and three militants were killed and five more soldiers sustained injuries,” the official added.
Taliban militants who conducted another car bomb in Helmand’s provincial capital Lashkar Gah on Friday also claimed responsibility for organizing suicide bombing in Nawa district on Saturday.
The militancy-plagued and opium-rich Helmand province has been regarded as the Taliban hotbed in Afghanistan.
