TEHRAN – Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in the Iranian capital, Tehran, to meet with senior Iranian officials and participate in the second trilateral summit of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan.
Putin’s plane landed in Tehran on Wednesday and he was officially received by Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Massoud Karbasian.
He is scheduled to meet with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and President Hassan Rouhani later on Wednesday.
Today, Tehran will play host to the second trilateral summit of Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan.
In August 2016, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his Russian and Azerbaijani counterparts Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev held their first key tripartite summit in Azerbaijan’s capital where they discussed ways of enhancing cooperation in the areas of commerce, energy, communications, transport and transit. They also exchanged views on environmental issues and the fight against terrorism.
On November 23, 2015, the Russian president visited the Iranian capital. During his trip, he met with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution shortly after arrival in Tehran.
