TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani condemned Friday’s deadly mosque attack in Egypt as “heinous terrorist crime”, offering condolences to the bereaved families of the victims.
“Condemning the heinous terrorist crime during Friday Prayers in Egypt, I extend Iranian people’s and my sincere condolences to the Egyptian people and the bereaved families of the victims,” President Rouhani said in a message posted on his official Twitter account on Saturday.
At least 305 people were reportedly killed and 109 injured when terrorists attacked the Rawda mosque in North Sinai on Friday.
Reports indicate the terrorists used explosives and heavy weaponry in their attack on the mosque.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi announced three days of nationwide mourning following the deaths of people in the attack.
