TEHRAN — Iranian students won the third place at the 11th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) held in, Phuket, Thailand, on November 12 to 21.
By winning one gold, three silver and one bronze medals, Iran came in third place after Thailand and the U.S. among the 45 countries participating in the event, ISNA reported.
IOAA is an annual event for highly performed high school students from all around the world. Established in Thailand in 2006, it was initiated by five countries namely Thailand, Indonesia, Iran, China and Poland with the aim of proliferating astronomy among high school students and fostering friendship among young astronomers at international level so as to build cooperation in the field of astronomy in the future among the young scholars.
The third IOAA in 2009 had also been held in Iran.
