Iran defeated Costa Rica 3-0 in Group C of the FIFA U-17 World Cup at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, on Friday.
Mohammad Ghobeishavi opened the scoring in the 25th minute from the penalty spot and Taha Shariati extended Iran’s lead four minutes later from the spot again.
With three minutes remaining, Mohammad Sardari scored Iran’s third goal to ensure the Asian giants ended the first round with panache.
Iran have scored 10 goals in the tournament so far.
The Iranian team started the competition with a 3-1 victory over Guinea and then beat Germany 4-0.
The Persians will face Group F third place team in quarterfinals in Margao on Oct. 17.
