TEHRAN – President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Tehran on Wednesday for a new session of strategic negotiations and for talks on the latest regional developments.
Heading a high-ranking delegation, Erdogan landed in Tehran on Wednesday morning and was given a welcome by Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Shariatmadari and the General Staff of Turkey Hulusi Akar, who has been in Iran since a couple of days ago.
Erdogan later was officially welcomed by President Rouhani at Sa’ad Abad complex, north of Tehran.
President Erdogan’s entourage in the state visit includes Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak, Minister of Customs and Trade Bulent Tufenkci, Minister of the Interior Suleyman Soylu, Minister of Culture and Tourism Numan Kurtulmus, and deputy leader of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) Mehmet Mehdi Eker.
The Turkish president is scheduled to attend the fourth round of strategic meetings between Iran and Turkey in Tehran, and to discuss the latest regional developments and the status of bilateral ties with Iranian officials.
Last week, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said President Erdogan would discuss with Tehran their response to the Iraqi Kurdish independence referendum in the visit.
While Iraq’s Kurds held a vote for independence on September 25, neighbors and countries in the Middle East, including Iran and Turkey, have voiced opposition to the vote.
