The Iranian girls, who participated in a global tournament for the first time since the revolution of 1979, finished in fourth place at Division B of the 2017 FIBA Asia U-16 Championship.

Elaheh Darestani’s girls lost to Kazakhstan 61-47 in the bronze medal match in Bengaluru, India on Saturday.

Iran defeated Nepal (89-32), Sri Lanka (84-76) and Maldives (129-30) and lost to India (97-53), Malaysia (85-68) and Kazakhstan (61-74) in the competition.

Hosts India defeated gritty Malaysia 64-48 and earn promotion to Division A.

The 2017 FIBA Asia U-16 Championship for Women is the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2018 FIBA U-17 World Championship for Women.
