Iran’s national football team managed to defeat Togo in an international friendly bout held Thursday evening in the capital city of Tehran.
The warm-up session, as part of preparations for the 2018 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup, convened in Azadi Sports Complex where the Persian side pulled out a 2-0 victory over Togo’s national football outfit.
Karim Ansarifard made a brace to give Iran the 2-0 lead in the match which was expected to give both national teams some final competitive testing before starting their World Cup campaigns in Russia.
Iran’s national team in the match against Togo comprised Hamed Lak, Vouria Ghafouri, Mohammad Hossein Kanaanizadegan (Vahid Amiri, 75′), Rouzbeh Cheshmi, Ehsan Hajsafi (Saeed Aghaei, 45′), Ahmad Abdollahzadeh (Seyed Jalal Hosseini, 75′), Saeid Ezatolahi (Omid Ebrahimi , 45′), Mehdi Torabi (Akbar Imani, 32′), Saman Ghoddos (Reza Ghoochannejhad, 63′), Karim Ansarifard as well as Kaveh Rezaei.
As announced previously by head coach of Iran’s national football team Carlos Queiroz, Iranian footballers will face Russia in another pre-World Cup friendly encounter on October 10.
Football squad of Iran is the top team in Group A of the final Asian qualifying round with a total of 22 points from six wins and four draws.
