TEHRAN– Iran began its 2018 AFC U-16 Qualifiers campaign with a win over Lebanon on Monday in Karaj’s Enghelab Stadium, west of Tehran.
Abbas Chamanian’s boys defeated Lebanon 3-0 in the five-team Group C.
Iranian defender Hossein Shahverdi broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, before Amirhossein Azizi doubled Iran’s advantage a minute later.
Mahdi Seyedi scored the final goal of the night as Iran began its campaign in style.
Iran will play Bhutan on Wednesday.
The 2018 AFC U-16 Championship qualification is an international men’s under-16 football competition which decides the participating teams of the 2018 AFC U-16 Championship.
A total of 16 teams qualify to play in the final tournament, including Malaysia who qualified automatically as host.
