Iran’s Crude Steel Output Up $7.2% in 4-Month Period: WSA

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran produced about 10.3 million tons of crude steel between January and April 2024, it said.

According to the report, Iran is still among the world’s top 10 steel producers out of a total of 71 steel producers.

The major steel producers in the world produced 625.4 million tons of crude steel in the first four months of 2024, showing a 0.9 percent decline compared to the sale period last year.

China, India, Japan, the US, Russia, South Korea, Germany, Turkey, Brazil and Iran were the world’s top 10 crude steel producers in this period, IRIB news reported.

China produced 343.7 million tons of crude steel from January to April 2024, the World Steel Association added.

Iran ranked world’s 10th largest steelmaker :WSA

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran ranked world’s 10th largest steelmaker in Jan.-May 2021:WSA. Iran was ranked the world’s tenth-largest steel producer in the first five months of 2021, Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) announced referring to the latest data released by the World Steel Association (WSA).

According to the WSA’s data, Iran produced 12.5 million tons of crude steel in January-May 2021, registering a 9.2 percent growth compared to the same period in 2020.

The Islamic Republic’s steel output stood at 2.6 million tons in May, indicating a 7.7 percent rise year on year.

Based on the mentioned data, the world’s top 64 steel makers managed to produce 837.5 million tons of steel in the mentioned five months to register a 14.5-percent rise from the figure for the last year’s same period.

Also, the production of world’s major steel producers reached 174.4 million tons in the said month, with a 16.5 percent increase over the same period last year.

Producing 473.1 million and 48.6 million tons of the product, China and India stood at the first and second places in the said period, respectively, while Japan stood at third place producing 40 million tons of crude steel.

The U.S., Russia, South Korea, Germany, Turkey, and Brazil took fourth to ninth places, respectively.

The Iranian Steel industry has been constantly developing over the past years against all the pressures and obstacles created by outside forces like the U.S. sanctions and the coronavirus outbreak that has severely affected the performance of the world’s top producers.

The country is expected to climb to seventh place among the world’s top steel producers by the Iranian calendar year 1404 (March 2025).

According to the former Acting Minister of Industry, Mining, and Trade Hossein Modares Khiabani, the production capacity of the country’s steel chain increased from 123 million tons in the Iranian calendar year 1392 (ended in March 2014) to 230 million tons in the previous year (ended on March 20).

WSA: January steel output over 22 times global average

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The year-on-year growth witnessed in Iran’s raw steel production in January 2020 was more than 22 times higher than the global average rate in the same period, a report by the World Steel Association (WSA) said.

According to the WSA report in January, Iran’s raw steel output witnessed a 46.7 percent growth compared to the figure for the same time span in 2019, whereas the global average production of the item grew by only 2.1 percent year-on-year, IRNA reported.

In January 2020, Iran produced 2.89 million tons of raw steel, indicating a 924,000-ton increase compared to the figure for the same period last year, which was 1.97 million tons.

This comes as raw steel production by 64 countries in the same month stood at 154.43 million tons, showing a rise of 3.2 million tons compared to the figure for January 2019, which amounted to 151.22 million tons.

In January 2020, the world’s top five steel producers were China (84.26 million tons), India (9.22 million tons), Japan (8.22 million tons), the US (7.7 million tons) and Russia (six million tons) respectively.

According to figures by the Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, the country produced over 20 million tons of raw steel during the first 10 months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2019-January 21, 2020), up by 6.8 percent year-on-year.

In the same duration last year, Iran’s raw steel output stood at 18.73 million tons.

In addition, Iran’s production of steel products reached 17.58 million tons during March 21, 2019-January 21, 2020, showing an increase of 9.3 percent compared to the figure for the same time span a year ago, which amounted to 16.09 million tons.

During the same 10-month period to January 21, Iran exported 8.8 million tons of steel ingots and products, with overseas sales of steel ingots accounting for more than 66 percent of the total figure.

Figures by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) shows that in this period, 5.82 million tons of steel ingots and 2.98 million tons of steel products were exported.

During the same 10-month time span a year ago, Iran had destined 3.97 million tons of steel ingots to foreign markets, which was 47 percent less than the country’s exports during March 21, 2019-January 21, 2020.
