“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” The World Is One Family

TEHRAN (Iran News) Of course, this concept goes far beyond a simple translation, because the origin and meaning of this expression are taken from ancient Hindu texts such as the Maha Upanishad. In the original verse it is expressed as follows:

“That which is mine and that which belongs to another—such divisions are made by narrow-minded people. For the magnanimous, the entire world is one family.”

This is similar to what we Iranians know from the universal literature of Saadi: Human beings are members of a whole, In creation of one essence and soul.

The phrase is composed of three Sanskrit parts:

Vasudha — meaning “the earth” or “the world”

Eva — meaning “indeed” or “certainly”

Kutumbakam — meaning “family”

This slogan represents the core of the philosophy of “unity in diversity” and emphasizes that all of humanity, regardless of nationality, race, or religion, is interconnected and related.

It promotes global brotherhood, cooperation, and shared responsibility for the well-being of planet Earth.

In its contemporary application, this phrase was chosen as the slogan of India’s presidency of the G20 in 2023, under the title “One Earth, One Family, One Future,” emphasizing the need for global cooperation to address challenges such as climate change and sustainable development.

The national symbolism of this verse— from which the phrase is derived— has also been engraved in the entrance hall of the Indian Parliament, indicating its importance as a moral and social message.

Therefore, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” is not merely a literary translation, but a powerful philosophical vision that promotes unity, peace, and collective responsibility. Naturally, this slogan stands in opposition to unilateralism, colonialism, and Western exploitation, and by emphasizing a familial view of the world, it promotes the theory of multilateralism to which Asia today adheres.

World condemns Israeli regime’s UNRWA ban: Media

TEHRAN (Iran News) The legislation, approved on Monday, would – if implemented – prevent UNRWA from providing life-saving support to Palestinians across Israeli-occupied Gaza and the West Bank, Al Jazeera reported on Tuesday.”World ”

“We will not allow this. The overwhelming vote of the Knesset reflects Israel’s transformation into a fascist state,” said a Palestinian spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh.

Hamas also denounced the move saying it considers the bill a “part of the Zionist war and aggression against our people”, while the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) called it “an escalation in the genocide” against Palestinians.

Fu Cong, the Chinese envoy to the UN, called the Israeli move “outrageous”. Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s UN ambassador, described Israel’s UNRWA ban as “terrible” and said it worsens the situation in Gaza.

Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs “strongly condemned” the Israeli move, describing it as a “flagrant violation of international law and the obligations of Israel as the occupying power” in Palestine.

The governments of the four European countries including Ireland, Norway, Slovenia, and Spain issued a joint statement condemning the Knesset’s targeting of the agency.

“UNRWA has a mandate from the United Nations General Assembly,” the statement noted. “The legislation approved by the Knesset sets a very serious precedent for the work of the United Nations and for all organizations of the multilateral system.”

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said UNRWA does life-saving work and her government opposes the Israeli Knesset’s decision to “severely restrict” the agency’s operations.

Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib urged Israeli authorities to let UNRWA carry out its UN General Assembly-ordered mandate across the Middle East. Lahbib said the agency provided “life-saving services in Gaza, the West Bank – including East Jerusalem – and across Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan”.

The Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on X that it is “concerned about the humanitarian, political and legal implications” of the Israeli laws banning cooperation with UNRWA.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said UNRWA has been an “irreplaceable lifeline” for the Palestinian people for the past seven decades.

“This is intolerable. It contravenes Israel’s obligations and responsibilities, and threatens the lives and health of all those who depend on UNRWA.”

In a related development, top UN officials continued to line up on Tuesday to defend the irreplaceable role of the global body’s agency for Palestine refugees, UNRWA, insisting that if implemented, the Israeli parliament’s decision to ban it would only deepen suffering in Gaza, the official website of the UN reported on Wednesday.

UNRWA is the main humanitarian organization in Gaza and the West Bank and operates in Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. It was established by the UN General Assembly in 1949 after the 1948 Nakba to protect and assist Palestinians ethnically cleansed from their homes.

It became operational on May 1, 1950, and since then has helped generations of refugees, many of whom still live in camps. It provides education, healthcare, social services, and emergency relief to people living in refugee camps in the Palestinian territory, Jordan, Syria, and Lebanon.

Since the onset of the Gaza war over a year ago, over 43,000 people, mostly women and children, have been killed in the Strip. Additionally, 2,500 have been killed in Lebanon.

Charles Michel: EU must stop lecturing world

TEHRAN (Iran News) In an interview with the Financial Times published on Friday, Michel admitted that the bloc has become “convinced that we know what is right and what is wrong” and often fails to make an effort to understand why other countries may think otherwise.

He noted that in the EU there is a “reflex which is close to a form of lecture” when communicating with developing countries with which the bloc has signed strategic, trade or political cooperation agreements.

“We are not always very good in terms of communication, in terms of explanation, in terms of talking with them and showing a certain respect to them,” Michel said.

He also suggested that the EU should review its approach to enforcing its standards and regulations on trading partners, giving fishing rules as an example.

“We use the vocabulary: yellow card or red card,” he said, pointing out that “the words we use are really humiliating because we give the impression that we are a player on the pitch and at the same time the referee.”

The EC President’s remarks came as dozens of world leaders gathered in Kazan, Russia this week to attend the 16th BRICS Summit. The guest list included the presidents of Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Türkiye – a NATO member and EU candidate country.

Michel suggested that the fact that the leaders of these countries, who are also “very close” to the EU from an economic and military point of view, chose to attend the BRICS Summit suggested that they “want to send a message to the rest of the world.”

“One of the emirs in the Gulf countries once told me if there is a vacuum, very quickly someone will fill the vacuum. And if you are not there, others are there,” Michel recalled, stressing that the EU needs to find “a new approach” to win over countries that wish to diversify their economic and security alliances.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed earlier this week that the BRICS group is not based on “friendship against anyone” and unlike the EU, its members are not bound by mutual obligations.

He explained that BRICS represents an “association of countries that share common values and common guidelines” and are committed to the universal principles of mutual respect and mutual benefit. The EU, on the other hand, is an organization that has clearly defined rules, binding documents and a “whole set of mutual obligations,” Peskov said.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Let’s clean up the world: “We are the first one to be hurt”. Waste production is an integral part of urban life, which is turning into a huge problem that will first and most hurt those who produced them. So that, on World Cleanup Day, let’s rid the planet of trash.

Although urbanization has affected human society and created many problems in both developed and underdeveloped countries, the developed ones have a plan for waste management and recycle a large part of it, and underdeveloped countries leave waste in nature, which will be the detriment of the environment and their health.

Per capita waste production in European countries is 300 to 350 grams, and in Iran, it is 700 grams and sometimes up to one kilogram, which unfortunately a very small part of it is separated and recycled.

With an average per capita of 700 grams to 1 kg, Iranians produce more than 50,000 tons of waste per day, which is basically twice the world standard.

This situation is worse in the capital city of Tehran so that the per capita waste production in Tehran is 750 to 800 grams per person daily. In fact, every Tehraner produces about 5 times their own weight of waste every year.

The environment is a global issue, and if something happens to it in one corner of the world, its effect will show itself in another part of the world in a few years, so the process of environmental degradation by over-production of waste has become worrisome.

In fact, the sheer volume of waste has led to the creation of the seventh continent in the world, which means that waste in the western United States and the western Pacific off the coast of Hawaii has created an area that is now 3.5 million square kilometers.

Increasing by 10 percent annually, this area has become one of the major environmental challenges in the world, endangering 280 species of birds and aquatic animals and killing more than 1 million birds and aquatic species annually.

This situation is worrying in the world, hence an environmental campaign called Clean Up the world, which consists of various associations around the world was formed in 1993 as an association approved and supported by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).

The campaign annually brings together about 35 million volunteers from 130 countries as one of the largest environmental gatherings in the world. However, it is now somewhat limited due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.

Since the world’s first cleanup campaign in 1993, millions of volunteers have made amazing progress.

According to statistics, about 8,000 tons of waste is produced daily in Tehran, nearly 17 percent of which is recycled, and the rest is landfilled, while in the developed world 70 percent of the waste is recycled and 30 percent is buried.

Many countries have been so successful that some even claim to reduce waste to zero by 2030, and some are looking to generate energy from waste.

In Iran, it requires the promotion of a culture that must begin in schools, or governments must adopt incentive and punishment systems to reduce waste production and make separation at source into a culture among Iranian families.

Over 6.46 people have recovered since the outbreak emerged in China last December.

On Saturday, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported a record increase in global coronavirus cases, with the total rising by 212,326 in 24 hours, Reuters reported.

The biggest increases were from the US, Brazil, and India, according to a daily report. The previous WHO record for new cases was 189,077 on June 28. Deaths remained steady at about 5,000 a day.

Global coronavirus cases exceeded 11 million on Friday, according to a Reuters tally, marking another milestone in the spread of the disease that has killed more than half a million people in seven months.

The US still worst-hit state

The virus has so far infected over 2.9 million in the US – currently ranking first in the number of cases and deaths in the world, killing 132,327. Florida and Texas, two states that have emerged as the latest hot spots of the US coronavirus outbreak, both reported record daily increases in confirmed COVID-19 cases on Saturday, with nearly 20,000 additional infections combined.

For a sixth straight day, Texas also registered an all-time high in the number of people hospitalized with the highly contagious respiratory illness – 7,890 patients after 238 new admissions in 24 hours.

By comparison, New York state – the US epicenter of the outbreak months ago, reported just 844 hospitalizations on Saturday, far below the nearly 19,000 hospital beds occupied by COVID-19 patients at the peak of its coronavirus crisis.

During the first four days of July alone, a total of 14 states have posted a daily record increases in the number of individuals testing positive for COVID-19.

Russia cases top 680,000

Russia on Sunday reported 6,736 new cases of the novel coronavirus, raising the nationwide tally to 681,251, Reuters wrote.

The authorities said that 134 people had died in the last 24 hours, bringing the official death toll to 10,161.

New number five

Mexico reported 523 more coronavirus deaths on Saturday, pushing its tally to 30,366, overtaking France to become the fifth-highest in the world.

The health ministry also reported 6,914 new infections and a total of 252,165 confirmed cases.

Deputy Health Minister Hugo Lopez Gatell reiterated that the actual number of infected was probably significantly higher.

“We knew from the beginning that the cases we report here do not represent the total number of people with COVID-19 in Mexico,” he told a regular news conference.

“Neither Mexico nor any other country in the world aims to make an exhaustive count.”

Citing unpublished figures from the civil registry, broadcaster Milenio said that by June 19 almost twice as many people had died from the virus as reported by Lopez Gatell.

Roughly reaching Russia

India added a record number of coronavirus cases Sunday, approaching Russia as the world’s third-most infected nation as it opens a mass treatment center in the capital to fight the pandemic.

The health ministry reported just under 25,000 cases and 613 deaths in 24 hours – the biggest daily spike since the first case was detected in late January.

The sharp rise came as Delhi started treating patients at a spiritual center converted into a sprawling isolation facility and hospital with 10,000 beds, many made of cardboard.

About the size of 20 football fields, the facility will treat mild symptomatic and asymptomatic cases.

State government officials fear the metropolis could record more than half-a-million cases by the end of the month.

Indonesia infections

Indonesia reported 82 new coronavirus deaths on Sunday in its highest daily tally, Health Ministry official, Achmad Yurianto, said, taking the toll to 3,171.

Infections rose 1,607, for a total of 63,749 cases, he added.

Philippines figures

The Philippines reported its biggest single-day jump in new coronavirus cases on Sunday, adding 2,434 confirmed infections and taking the total count to 44,254, the health ministry said.

The ministry said the rise could be attributed to increased contact among people as the country began easing lockdown measures to help reduce the pandemic’s damage to the economy.

The Philippines also recorded seven new deaths, the ministry said, bringing total fatalities to 1,297.

German cases

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 239 to 196,335, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Sunday.

The reported death toll rose by 2 to 9,012, the tally showed.

Tokyo toll

Tokyo also confirmed 111 new coronavirus infections on Sunday, the fourth straight day that the tally of fresh cases exceeded 100, public broadcaster NHK said.

Tokyo reported 131 new cases the previous day, prompting Governor Yuriko Koike, who won Sunday’s gubernatorial election, to urge residents to avoid non-urgent trips out of the capital and embrace working from home.

Eight new cases

China recorded eight new coronavirus cases for Saturday, up from with three a day earlier, the national health authority said on Sunday, while city officials in Beijing said nearly all the cases in a recent outbreak in the capital were mild.

Of the new cases, six were imported and two were in Beijing, which has been scrambling to quash an outbreak traced to a massive wholesale market in the city early last month.

Also on Sunday, China reported seven new asymptomatic patients, up from four a day earlier.

As of Saturday, mainland China had 83,553 confirmed coronavirus cases, the health authority said. China’s death toll from the COVID-19 remained 4,634, unchanged since mid-May.

World Economy to Become More Challenging

2020 has been the hotbed of events which has made political and economic predictions more complicated in some countries. World’s tackling and reacting to the poverty, resulted from economic incapability and providing livelihood for majority of people on the earth because of the Coronavirus pandemic and social distancing, has essentially been hidden and unimaginable.

IRAN NEWS POLITICAL DESK

The capitalist countries which are run based on the liberalism school either politically or economically have shown more misery comparing to other countries in terms of tackling with poverty and unemployment. The U.S. which is proud to lead the world in having capitalist system has stuck in a disastrous condition that the lines of its hungry people are miles-long, and according to a saying, it is just the beginning.

A poll conducted by Reuters from 250 economists worldwide indicates that Coronavirus-related economic recession is deeper than previously predicted. One of the respondent was Ethan Harris, head of global economics research at BofA, who said, “In many ways the outlook for the global economy resembles an obstacle course. In the first step, the economy falls into a big hole, starting in China in Q1, most of the rest of the world in Q2 and extending into Q3 in some emerging markets.” He continues, “The second step is trying to reopen the economy without re-igniting the disease. The third step is dealing with the lagged impact of confidence on durable goods spending, the risks of a premature maxing out of fiscal and monetary stimulus, and a trade and tech war waiting in the wings.”

Almost three-quarters of economists, participating in the poll taken by Reuters, said the recovery would be either U-shaped, with a prolonged trough, or like a tick mark where the speed of the recovery is not as quick as the drop-off.

Only 15 respondents predicted a strong, V-shaped recovery. The others said it would be W-shaped, where a vigorous rebound results in another sharp slump, or L-shaped where the economy flatlines after the downturn.

The world economy is now forecast to shrink 3.2% this year, compared to a 2.0% contraction predicted in the April 23 Reuters poll and -1.2% forecast in an April 3 poll.

No economist polled expected growth in 2020, with forecasts in a -0.3% to -6.7% range. The outlook under a worst-case scenario was -6.0%, with those in a -3.0% to -15.0% range.

This prediction comes as early forecasts for global economic growth tended to range from 2.3% to 3.6% before the pandemic struck. Of course Reuters’ poll shows that the global economy was expected to grow 5.4% next year, according to the latest poll, faster than the 4.5% predicted last month.

Economies’ of India and China are expected to bounce back to grow sooner than other states and Japan with some “ifs” can enjoy comparative growth.

Iran, by balancing its liquidity deficit through selling state properties provided that the money is invested in productive and generative affairs and increasing the volumetric rate of gross domestic production (GDP, can experience below one percent growth rate. The way how to handle the oil sanctions and sales of crude and oil products is very crucial for Iran. Europe and especially Switzerland can take advantage of Iran’s intact market by restoring bilateral banking relation to appease concerns about more recession. And this all relies on the foreign policy in the government in the post-President Rouhani’s era.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations stressed the need for the removal of the US’ unilateral sanctions for an effective global battle with the coronavirus, saying those sanctions harm the whole world amid the efforts to contain the pandemic.

The Iranian envoy on Tuesday sent a letter to the president of the United Nations General Assembly to highlight the harmful effects of the US sanctions after the General Assembly adopted the ‘Global Solidarity to Fight the Coronavirus Disease 2019’ resolution on April 2.

In his letter, Majid Takht Ravanchi said the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States are to the benefit of the coronavirus and to the detriment of the entire world.

He stressed that while the coronavirus has plagued all parts of the world, it is necessary for all countries to close ranks and enhance international solidarity and cooperation in the fight against the virus.

The Iranian ambassador said the inhumane sanctions imposed by the US have impeded the target countries’ battle with COVID-19. “Such conditions are detrimental not only to the citizens of those countries but also to the global fight against the coronavirus and to the health of all people in the globe.”

He also emphasized that the removal of the US’ unlawful sanctions is a necessity in the course of global efforts to contain the novel coronavirus.

Takht Ravanchi deplored the US government’s ignorance of the calls from the UN Secretary-General, the WHO Director-General, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, world leaders, NGOs, and civil societies for lifting the sanctions, saying Washington has even intensified some of those unilateral sanctions.

Iran has intensified diplomatic efforts in recent weeks to persuade the other countries to defy the Washington sanctions against Iran which have hampered the efforts to control the coronavirus epidemic.

In March, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif sent a letter to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, denouncing the US’ sanctions as a major obstacle to the Islamic Republic’s fight against the coronavirus and urging that such unilateral and illegal sanctions should end.

Zarif emphasized in the letter that despite Iran’s scientific capabilities and the commitment that the country’s health system has shown to the fight against the coronavirus outbreak, the sanctions on legal trade and the preconditions that the United States’ authorities have set recently in order to prevent the sale of medicine, medical equipment, and humanitarian supplies have posed serious obstacles to the efforts to battle against the COVID-19 outbreak in Iran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – As COVID-19 captures global headlines, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned Tuesday that the world needs nearly six million nurses.

The UN’s health agency along with partners Nursing Now and the International Council of Nurses (ICN) underscored in a report the crucial role played by nurses, who make up more than half of all health workers worldwide.

“Nurses are the backbone of any health system,” WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement, Reuters reported.

“Today, many nurses find themselves on the frontline in the battle against COVID-19,” he noted, adding that it was vital they “get the support they need to keep the world healthy.”

The report said that there are just under 28 million nurses on the planet.

The report said that there are just under 28 million nurses on the planet.

In the five years leading up to 2018, the number grew by 4.7 million.

“But this still leaves a global shortfall of 5.9 million,” the WHO said, pointing out that the greatest gaps were in poorer countries in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and parts of South America.

The report urged countries to identify gaps in their nursing workforce and invest in nursing education, jobs and leadership.

Shortages ‘exhaust workforce’

ICN chief executive Howard Catton told a virtual briefing that infection rates, medication errors and mortality rates “are all higher where there are too few nurses”.

Furthermore, “shortages exhaust our current nursing workforce”, he added.

In fighting the pandemic, Mary Watkins, who co-chaired the report for Nursing Now, called for urgent investment in virus tests for health care workers.

“We have a very high proportion of health care workers not going to work because they’re afraid that they’ve been infected and that they can’t prove that they have not got the infection — or that they’ve had it, and they’re over it,” she said.

Catton said that 23 nurses had died in Italy and cited figures suggesting that around 100 health workers had died around the world.

Meanwhile, he said there were reports of nine percent of health workers being infected in Italy and “we’re now hearing of rates of infections up to 14 percent in Spain”.

He also cited reports of “completely unacceptable and reprehensible” attacks on health workers battling COVID-19, largely due to ignorance about their work, combined with countries not doing enough to protect them.

“COVID is putting it into a very stark lens for us all,” he said, though he welcomed the growing appreciation in some countries of nurse’s work.

Catton said that could help change perceptions of the value of nursing — which in turn might help make it a more attractive profession.

Male recruitment

Beyond COVID-19, Watkins said many wealthier countries were not producing enough nurses to meet their own health care needs, and were therefore reliant on migration, exacerbating shortages in poorer countries.

“Eighty percent of the world’s nurses only currently serves 50 percent of the world’s population,” she noted.

Catton warned of risks that richer countries would rely on the Philippines and India to “supply the world with nurses”, which could lead to significant shortages in India.

The experts said nursing remains female-dominated and needed to recruit more men.

“There is clear evidence that where there are more men in any profession in the world, the pay and the terms and conditions improve,” Watkins said.
