In his reaction to the limitations created by US government for exporting some metal products of the country such as steel, he stated, “under such circumstances, domestic steel producers are advised to produce steel in the country.”

To improve exports situation, the country requires revising and modifying some rules and regulations in this field, he reiterated.

Various directives have been issued at the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade that may create some restrictions in the exports field, the most important of which are the limitations in the customs processes, currency restrictions and also inflow of exchange rate into the country.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sobhani emphasized the need to encourage producers in line with boosting export of their products.

He put the volume of steel exported from the country in the past year (ended March 20, 2019) at 7.5 to 8 million

With the studies made in this regard, it is expected that steel production volume will increase in the country in the current year (started March 21, 2019).

Billet and bloom shipments made up the bulk of exports (67%), reaching 3.314 million tons. Slab exports came next with a 1.585 million tons.

According to another report by ISPA, the exports of finished steel products during the last fiscal year reached 2.98 million tons, up 84% year-on-year.

Rebar was the main exported finished product with 1.65 million tons, registering a 177% jump compared with a year before.

Following rebar were hot-rolled coil with 662,000 tons, down 5%; beams with 243,000 tons, up 45%; other steel products with 212,000 tons, up 165%; coated coil with 172,000 tons, up 182%; and cold-rolled coil with 43,000 tons, up 115%.

Exports of direct-reduced iron declined by 25% year-on-year to 533,000 tons during the 12-month period.

The Islamic Republic of Iran produced 6,223,000 tons of crude steel in this period, showing a 7.1 percent increase as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.

Moreover, 155,009,000 tons of crude steel was produced by 64 steelmakers in the world from January 1 to March 31, 2019, registering a 4.9 percent increase as compared to the last year’s corresponding period.

Earlier, Deputy Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) Ardeshir Sa’d-Mohammadi had put Iran’s crude steel produced last year (ended March 20, 2019) at 35 million tons, 22 million of which was used in the production process.

Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) also pointed out that about 4.484 million tons of crude steel and also 2.612 million tons of steel products were produced in the country in 11 months of the last Iranian calendar year (March 21 – Feb. 21).
