Iran, in frontline of innovation in global arena

On Monday, WIPO’s representative Omar Katbi read the message of Director General of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry at the closing ceremony of 32nd Khwarizmi International Award (KIA).

The message is read as follows, “World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is very proud of its long-term interaction and cooperation with prestigious Iranian Scientific and Industrial Research Organization in a way that WIPO has interacted with IKA since its establishment in 1987.”

“Islamic Republic of Iran has joined many key international treaties with regard to the intellectual property since its establishment in 2001. Moreover, Iran enjoys widespread scientific and cultural capacities, so that the country has increased its national and international innovations significantly.”

Khwarizmi International Award (KIA) is held every year at the initiation of Iran Industrial and Scientific Research Organization in order to identify, introduce and support innovators and top researchers of the country.

The 32nd edition of Khwarizmi Intl. Award (KIA) wrapped up its work on Monday in the presence of Vice President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari and Minister of Science, Research and Technology Mansour Gholami.

Iran climbs up 10 steps in global indicator of innovation

According to the latest report of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) for ranking countries in the global indicator of innovation, Islamic Republic of Iran moved up 10 steps in 2018.

Accordingly, Islamic Republic of Iran upgraded its rank from 75 in 2017 to 65 in 2018, showing a considerable hike.

The report put Iran’s ranking in the global indicator of innovation in 2015 at 106.

The global indicator of innovation is the name of a report that is released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) every year.

The country owes its considerable growth to various dimensions such as outputs of knowledge, technology and creativity.

Undoubtedly, ecosystem of innovation and entrepreneurship and also development of active startups in various economic sectors have had salient and outstanding role in promoting considerable growth of country in this sector.

It is interesting to know that Iran’s ranking in Innovation Efficiency Ratio has hit from 56 in 2017 to 11 in 2018, showing a significant jump.

Moreover, Iran stood at 16th rank among 34 countries in the world in terms of upper-middle-income countries.

Iran to expand coop. with WIPO

Iranian Vice-President for Science and Technology Sorena Sattari has said that Iran’s cooperation with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will rise in recent years.

Expressing the huge growth level in international registration of inventions by young Iranians in recent years, Sattari emphasized the need for growing cooperation with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

He made the remarks in a meeting with Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Francis Gurry on Sunday.

Referring to the potential of creative human resources in Iran, he noted that these forces are foundations for the knowledge-based economy; “relying on the creativity of these educated young population, we can take actions to develop knowledge-based economics.”

Francis Gurry, for his part, pointed to the Global Indicator of Innovation (GII), which is being produced annually by WIPO, and said “the rating provided in this report is not indicative of Iran’s capabilities, nor the reality.”

“Iran’s good performance in the field of startups is praiseworthy, and we understand all of Iran’s efforts in the field of innovation. In addition, in many countries and economies of the world as well as in the countries of the region, innovation is at the center of attention,” he noted.
